Today we’d like to introduce you to Christopher Brown.
Christopher, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far. I was born in Birmingham, Alabama and lived most of my life between there and Savannah, Georgia. Throughout my childhood, my imagination was always encouraged by my parents who were also artists themselves. As a child, I would create comic books, draw characters, and even make my own toys. I also listened to a lot of Bjork! During my teenage years I created a clothing line with my close friends called Heart&Sole. We made custom T-shirts and painted shoes. After high school, I went back to Georgia to attend Savannah College of Art and Design. During my time there I obtained a B.F.A in Illustration and I met some of my best friends there. That is also where I met my wife Jessica (@jzillu).
Soon after graduating, I moved to Chicago and lived in Logan Square. I then began working as a freelance illustrator and fine artist. It didn’t take long for me to discover the awesome art community here in Chicago. Since coming here, I’ve come across amazing opportunities, from having my work in exhibitions to working with Joe Freshgoods on his “Thank You Obama” collection featuring Chance the Rapper, in addition to working with other clients and collaborators.
Currently, I am happy to announce that I just released my new fine art series called “Nothing Thought”. It will be traveling to various galleries around Chicago so be on the lookout! I’ve also finally been able to launch my online shop.
I am truly blessed to have been able to do all these things. I also would never have accomplished anything out here without having great friends, family, and fellow artist for help and support!
Has it been a smooth road? It definitely hasn’t been. I often wish there were more hours in a day. Working on different projects and managing my illustration business, fine tuning my craftsmanship and skills, while working a full time job as a screen printer, and still having a life in between is tough. But it is truly worth it to work on what you’re passionate about. Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Cbillustration – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others. CBillustration is my company name. I enjoy many different fields of illustration like Concept art, Childrens books, and Storyboarding. I have worked with diverse clients such as comic publishers, music artists, Indie games studios, urban wear brand owners, etc. The thing that sets me apart is that I am often not just a contracted artist, I am a friend. I look out for the people I work with and make sure they are creating the best project possible.
Here are some types of the projects I’ve worked on:
Urban wear design/ branding Graphic design Live action films Stop motion films Album covers Indie games VSFX films Comic books Children’s books Editorial Illustration Advertising Illustration
One of the main projects I am known for in Chicago is collaborating with @joefreshgoods for the “Thank You Obama” collection. It was cool to see my work go viral and be a part of pop culture! I am excited about some upcoming collaborations and projects. I can’t wait to share when the time comes!
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least? I love that there are so many cool and diverse people here. I am still one of those people who get excited to ride on the L. look at the scenery and watch people get to where they are going. I am happy to say I have made some good friends here and I look forward to meeting more. Everyone has a story.
I definitely don’t like the traffic. People are absurdly impatient and crazy… Beware it’s contagious.
